in my opinion, the tniv

in my opinion, the tniv failed because of the marketing for the esv and not because of any real problems with the translation. people got all worked up about "gender neutral" / "gender accurate" and "essentially literal", and dismissed a perfectly good translation to the point that some christian bookstores wouldn't even carry it.

the next niv is not going to make the cbmw folks any happier. it's going to be a revised tniv, isn't it? they may rework a few gender references that have legitimate complaints, but they're not changing their overall method.

the biggest difference between the next niv and the tniv is going to be the name. zondervan realized that the name recognition of the niv killed any chance of success for an improved translation with a different name.
