If you do not have the person’s consent and they are taken against their will, how is that a “mock” kidnapping and not a real kidnapping?

This is certainly a “what in the world were they thinking?” moment…

or is that WERE they thinking?

I don’t know and this is just guess, but maybe they were thinking that with all of the “reality” shows on today, they had to make it as “real” as possible.
Don’t get me wrong…I in no way agree with what happened and I think they blew it on several levels, but its a guess.
However, as an answer to that…in the Christian School in Michigan where I served for 10 years, we did a chapel one day like an underground church service in a “restricted access” nation (different, smaller room than normal, windows blacked out, password to get in, everything whispered, etc. No guns, no kidnapping, no violence, no off-site activity, everyone knew what was coming and the students still talked about how effective it was and how it made them think about the persecution of others and the freedoms we enjoy.
Its the atmosphere you build, the emotions you portray, and the prayer and preparation you put into it…not the “reality” show you put into it.

I think the exercise your school did in Michigan is a great idea. It brought a bit of a flavor without terrorizing the students..

You may be right about the “reality” television.

Another example of ‘the church knows better than the parents’, and ‘try that with an adult group in a CCW state’. ;)

Good point Susan. If I have a gun, and someone else is waving theirs around pointing it at kids, they wouldn’t be pointing it for long.
