That may be true. Fortunately, we don’t have to choose between avoiding obesity and avoiding alcohol.

Obesity is a worldwide problem, as is alcohol. Avoid Both.

Obesity is a greater problem in our churches and in our pulpits than alcohol and is rarely if ever addressed.

Not a lot of people abusing their wives and children because they are obese. Or driving while obese and killing people in accidents.

Came across this document at work…

But as I pointed out before, we don’t have to choose between avoiding alcohol and avoiding obesity. These efforts are not in competition.

Of course, but neither should we conflate them as if both are equal. Or as if Scripture doesn’t warn us about one in a way it does not warn us about the other.

To treat them as equals seems to add something to Scripture that God didn’t say which would seem strange if it were to come from someone who decries cultural fundamentalism for adding warnings or rules for Christian living that are not found in Scripture.

We can say that gluttony is bad without equating it to drunkenness.

More Christians struggle with alcohol abuse than some realize. The problem will become worse in the next generations as children and grandchildren take "Christian Liberty" further than the parents/grandparents intended.

For The Record: I have preached/taught on the topic of over-eating. One reason I exercise is to avoid unnecessary weight gain. I (and quite a few others, I imagine) do not like a preacher who is overweight due to lack of appetite control (not medical reasons) telling me how I should live.
