Great article. Let's also remember that engaging in good works and growing in holiness occurs at different speeds amongst different people and is a work of God.

NewNP

I hadn’t really understood New Perspective as a two-stage justification view before. It’s an interesting way to look at it. Does seem to fit with my very incomplete knowledge of NP.

It’s usually a sign that we have some theology wrong—or improperly emphasized—if we have to do a lot of ‘explaining away’ of passages that seem clear. This is often seems to be the case with good works and holiness passages in reference to judgment or salvation. One pitfall to avoid is trying to erase the complexity in our hunger to make things simple or more clear. (Same with the old free will/predestination puzzle.)

In the long run, oversimplification isn’t really more clear. It leads to confusion. It just seems more clear at the moment.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
