Maria von Trapp commented later on with words to this effect; "It's a great story, but it's not our story." Evidently Captain von Trapp and his family simply walked across the border into Italy with the Italian passports they had because Italy had been a part of Austria-Hungary. Still quite inspirational, as they had to rebuild their lives form virtually nothing for the principle of not working with vicious dictators.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
