NewA point of perspective
One time, when I became aware of a colleague's trip to Lost Wages, I jokingly said that if he really needed to get rid of a sum of money, he could write me a check, and I'd even send a thank you note.
His response was telling; he noted the rush of adrenaline that he got when throwing the dice, spinning the wheel, and such, and noted that I didn't have anything to match. So we might find that doing things like playing sports, hunting, and such would form a great bulwark against this.
But that noted, a scene I remember from there comes to mind. I was walking back to my room--no other way but to go by the gaming tables, even if you're there for a conference--and I saw a seventy-something old man being brought a sandwich and a drink by a waitress who was dressed in a sort of "Old West Prostitute" outfit, and the guy did not even flinch as he reached again and again for the one armed bandit. So it can take some doing to get past that adrenaline/dopamine response.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
