NewExperience in the world

Mon, 11/24/25

I just listened to this podcast about how Lewis, Tolkien, and others among the "Inklings" at the "Bird and Baby" were profoundly influenced not just by theology (as if that were not good enough), but by their experiences in the first and second World Wars. My family is currently reading "The Last Battle" together before bedtime, and it is profound how current events (Ukraine, Taiwan, Russia, China) parallel the ape's solicitation of the Calormenes to come into Narnia. We would think that the world would know better than to descend into totalitarianism and slavery, but Lewis reminds us that it is nothing new that we do.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
