Why not declare America a Christian nation by law, put the Christian religion at the center of the state, and let the civil magistrate enforce the “highest good”?

Hasn't the UK already done that (Anglicanism)? It hasn't worked out so well for them. The answer is not to legislate a particular religion, but we should also be cautious about banning Christian participation or influence within government. There are valid concerns about both Hegseth and Mamdani. I get why some Christians are more willing to give Hegseth a pass since we have more in common with his religious views than those of Islam. However, that should not negate the concerns about Hegseth. On the other hand, I cannot understand the Christians who are willing to give Mamdani a pass while criticizing Hegseth. In those situations, I have to suspect it is more about political bias than actual religious concern.
