If indeed he “depended on alcohol more than Jesus”, I’ve got to guess that his problem was more serious than simply getting drunk from time to time, especially since he sought treatment. I don’t know that he’s been away long enough to even really understand the extent of his problem, let alone to be its master and not its slave. As Jim noted in the comments about the pastor who falls into sexual sin, life on the road is incredibly dangerous for men with compulsive behaviors like this.
