….to Martin Luther, who was ordained a professor of theology at the University of Wittenberg in 1508. Elsewhere in Germany, Heidelberg was their first university (complete with theology instruction) in 1386, and here’s a list of other early European universities.

There are great reasons to debate where theological instruction ought to occur—university, seminary, church, etc..—but this article does the debate no favors by ignoring a huge factor in theological training.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
