This story and others just like it from big eva to “man of God” fundamentalism demonstrates repeatedly that Christians value giftedness and charisma over faithfulness. When will we wake up?

NewWhat struck me

Fri, 03/25/22

I haven’t dug in deeply to find out precisely what he did while on sleeping pills, anxiety medications, and alcohol, but that combination suggests to me that Houston had some serious stresses that he needed to deal with. I don’t know if it would have been other sins, constant travel, perils of celebrity, or what, but I’m reminded of a time when I picked up a prescription and the pharmacy was announcing they had generic Ambien (prescription sleep aid), and my instant thought was “something is wrong with the culture here that so many people need this stuff.”

Or maybe there are a lot of people who have trouble sleeping without other issues going on, but….

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
