It might seem that “failure to report” is a fairly minor conviction, and while technically that’s true, you have to remember that implicit in that “minor” conviction is the fact that he had a number (how many we don’t know) of cases brought before him where priests were accused of some degree of sexual assault, and he took the side of the abusers instead of the abused—and in doing so created an environment ripe for more abuse. Chew on that a while—6 months is pretty lenient for that!
