I’m not sure who the general public is. Maybe there is some exaggeration of Americans’ zeal to throw off Judeo-Christian traditions… but I I can’t believe there is very much. There’s a bit of a backswing currently, due to the failure of the Obama tenure to live up to its rhetoric, but these pendulum swings are very superficial.

The “general public” probably does not have deep, mature convictions about most of these things.

I like Cruz (he’s one of my two favorite Repub presidential hopefuls) and I wish he were right. But I’m fairly sure he’s not.

Collins’ Dictionary defines the term “general public” as “people in general.” In that sense I believe Cruz is right in saying that ordinary Americans do not wish to throw off Judeo-Christian values. Most polls show that conservatives, whose belief system would embrace the alluded to values, would agree with Cruz. I do agree with you, however, that a fair percentage of those can be wobbly on particular issues, especially those making up milennials. Still, Cruz may be able to tap into this conservative majority, but given that many of them are what are commonly called “RINOS,” it is doubtful.
