TGC also posted a more critical perspective: Breaking Evangelicalism’s Silence on IVF

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

My thought is that both do well. The one place where I’d slightly disagree with the more critical article—and really Grudem’s comments on why many would reject IVF as well—is that if IVF severs procreation from the normal marital, sexual bond, then so does adoption in a manner of speaking. If husband and wife are submitting to the guidance of 1 Cor. 7 and such, that’s something I don’t get that worked up about in either case.

For me, the key issue is simply what the pastor that did my wife and I’s wedding noted during premarital counseling; that the key issues are whether you’ve created spare embryos that are just going to rot in the freezer, and whether you’re going to implant so many embryos that you’re going to need to do abortions to reduce the risk to the mother.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
