Dr. James Dobson: Donald Trump Has Accepted Christ

Donald Trump

Dr. James Dobson, who was among the more than 900 evangelical faith leaders who met with the Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting in New York City, says it happened fairly recently. He also said he knew who led the businessman to Christ. “I don’t know when it was, but it has not been long,” …. “I believe he really made a commitment, but he’s a baby Christian. We all need to be praying for him, especially if there’s a possibility of him being our next chief executive officer.”

Dobson also claimed Ted Bundy came to Christ and helped the serial killer earn air time to revel in his murders.

Dobson is clearly a complete fool. How convenient that Trump has “accepted Christ” just prior to a meeting with a group of “evangelicals.” Perhaps the Babylon Bee article about hasty Bible story lessons complete with flannelgraphs wasn’t satire after all.

Tyler is a pastor in Olympia, WA and works in State government.

NewDobson should keep his mouth shut

Sat, 06/25/16

Even if Trump has accepted Christ, his “profession” needs to come from his OWN lips, not from the lips of James Dobson. And, if this is so, he is still a “baby Christian” and you don’t give baby Christians huge spiritual responsibilities, such as to lead a nation, any more than you give a novice the responsibilities of a Bishop. That James Dobson would announce a “new convert’s” confession shows the height of spiritual malpractice. Private decisions are just that — private — until the principle party wishes to announce it. To violate this privacy is to announce one’s own incompetence as a counselor. Dobson should keep his mouth shut until Trump opens his.

Every Republican nominee since Ronald Reagan has had an evangelical leader claim his salvation conversion.

I like James Dobson and hope he is right about Trump’s salvation.

It would not be the first time that God saved someone others thought unsavable.

In the meantime, I’ll just wait and see what happens. But I try to assume the best about a profession of faith, and encourage, rather than discourage, a new believer.

In other words, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, and be patient with them. Of course, from our vantage point, some professions prove to be true, alas, others do not.

NewOn "Johnny–come–lately"-conversions

On “Johnny–come–lately”-conversions:

  • Trump got saved? Great! Waiting for fruit to prove
  • I could vote for a Jew or a Mormon (last time around). I am interested in competence and policy!
  • Politicians manipulate naive Christians and we’ve been duped before
  • Call me skeptical - very skeptical!

Maybe someone should share the gospel with Dobson. Methinks he doth not understandeth.

NewNot relevant

Sun, 06/26/16

There are Christians who do not believe and understand many of the things Christians ought to believe and understand.

There are many non-Christians who do believe many of the things Christians ought to believe and understand.

The same is true of the subset of principles that should be believed and understood by U.S. Presidents.

So … as far as being qualified for Office goes, doesn’t matter much if he is a Christian.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

At this late date in the process, becoming a Christian would probably not make any difference whatsoever. The kind of things that make Trump objectionable to many would not likely be changed suddenly. The only one it makes any difference to might seem to be Dr. Dobson because he could then find a reason to vote for the man he has previously said he would NOT vote for. It just may be that it is the weakness of Dobson that is made evident.
