Just because you’re taking fire doesn’t mean you’re over the target, as any refugee from Westboro Baptist Church or 1st Baptist of Hammond can tell you. It just means you’ve ticked someone off.
Bert, I understand your point, and I do not know the man writing the article. My guess is that he was commenting on a Biblical principle such as Philippians 1:28-30.
