There are days when our culture seems hopelessly lost to the forces of stupidity. Satire would have to be among the victims wherever that happens… because you have to be bright enough to understand it. (Bearing in mind that stupidity, like intelligence, is a very spotty thing: we turn it on and off for reasons that don’t seem to have anything to do with truth.)
