NewAlways coming back

It seems that errant pastors always seem to come back (David Hyles being something of an exception so far, and hopefully Jack Schaap), and this illustrates a need for churches and associations to have lists of people who have been shown the door, along with the reasons why. Not that it would be perfect—the reasons to show MacDonald the door have been known for years—but it would at least be helpful to say “this was not simply the right boot of fellowship”.

And yes, you need to get it right, or get sued, but again…..not too hard to do with, say, MacDonald, Hyles, or Schaap.

NewFrom what I understand

Not only is MacDonald coming back, but he is trying to reclaim all of his sermons and stuff from Harvest Bible and Walk In The Word to re-launch himself.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

NewMy view

If you don’t like James MacDonald, don’t listen to him. I never have, so why would I care whether others do? This seems to be much ado about things that are outside of my purview. I have my own life to live, and whether a guy is considered qualified by others to preach in a camp outside of mine… so be it.

NewPurity of church

Mark, I’ve been practicing exactly what you suggest—don’t listen to MacDonald—but at a certain level, MacDonald is tremendously influential with a large number of people following his example. The key issue here is the purity of the church, and while we are clearly a small pond here, each of us has most likely some contact with those who follow MacDonald and his friends like Driscoll. Perhaps we can sharpen each other so we can see the wolves in our midst and counsel others to avoid them.
