Permission doesn’t have much to do with it.

A better defense would be: plagiarism has to do with publishing, not preaching… and I had permission. But there are still ethical issues with heavily borrowing without acknowledgment. So “plagiarism” is a distraction. It’s not really about that.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

The principle is simple; if you use someone else’s stuff, just cite them. If you find that you’re doing more citing than preaching or writing, you might ask yourself “do I really have anything to add to this conversation?”. Not everyone is called to be a teacher or elder, and that’s OK.
