“A Christian social-justice organization has called on the Associated Press to stop labeling undocumented immigrants “illegal” in the Associated Press Stylebook, a Bible for reporting and editing decisions used by news media across the United States.”

“As people of faith we believe that each person is created in God’s image, and the dignity of all people must be protected … . Language is a powerful tool that is never neutral. Descriptions shape perceptions. Words are used to persuade.”

Next time the group has banquet or benefit concert—tickets required—I think I’ll just drop in wearing a sign that says “undocumented attendee.”

… maybe add a sign to my back: being made in the image of God means I get to be wherever I want to be.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
