Judge rejects Schaap bid for sentencing adjustment in sex case

…..is that we all will have an eye out for what it means when a pastor begins behaving badly, as in Schaap’s “polishing the shaft” sermon.

Gail Riplinger decided she’d take a few swings at Schaap:

“Offering an outside opinion on the matter, Gail Riplinger, a noted religious author, scholar and lecturer, wrote a letter to Lozano disputing Schaap’s claim he did not have proper legal counsel. She claimed Schaap had free legal advice at his disposal through the Christian Law Association, and personally knew Schaap’s had a close association with some members of its legal staff.

“I must conclude that Jack Schaap likely has more close personal friends who are lawyers than anyone who has ever appeared before you as a defendant,” Riplinger wrote. “No doubt they were all just a phone call away to clarify any questions he may have had. Most of us have not had the privilege of having a cadre of close friends who are attorneys, but Schaap certainly has many such close associations.”

Riplinger adds that given Schaap’s level of literacy — noting numerous books authored by him for sale on Amazon.com, as well as his (doctorate) level of education — (his) “assertion that he could not understand the words regarding the sentencing seems preposterous.”

Note how she’s described as a “noted religious author, scholar and lecturer” (!!!). Schaap’s (phony) doctorate also came up…

Jim: :^) I hope that if I am ever unfortunate enough to hear a sermon that bad, I will walk out or otherwise display an unmistakable contempt for the abomination being transformed into sound.

Larry; it’s worth noting that it’s not a phony doctorate, but an honorary one that was predictable based on his affiliations. Agreed 100% that it is meaningless due to that, though.

But regarding the request for a review of the sentence, it seems to fit that a man infamous for twisting words to suit his own ends would view the judge’s clear words on his mandatory sentence as something he could twist. As Jim notes, hopefully he won’t succeed and we won’t hear about him much for another ten years.

My view … the underlined a gross overstatement

Maybe, maybe not. Two things are worth noting

1. Hyles Anderson/FBC have a pattern of putting wolves in the pulpit. Jack Hyles and Jack Schaap.

2. The ministry of Hyles Anderson/FBC was built on the foundation of personality - to the point where they erect idolatrous statues of their leaders. They have yet to tear them down. I don’t think it is a stretch to write off the whole ministry as leading people astray.
