NewEgypt, Eschatology & Politics

Let us remember that our primary responsiblity as a church is to carry out the Great Commission and worship and serve our God.

Certainly, this outcome could have significant effects upon both our foreign policy and the nation of israel. We should not minimize that we live in a spiritually and politically dangerous world.

Let us also remember that God “works out all things according to the counsel of His will.” God’s program in this age is with the Body of Christ, but He has not forgotten His chosen nation, the people Israel, and Messiah the Prince will rule and reign from Jerusalem in God’s time and God’s way.

I take comfort in knowing that the first century church successfully served the Lord and prospered during the reign of such men as Nero. A little historical study shows how corrupt and dangerous that political world was. If they could serve God then, we can serve God now.

It is also worth noting that Paul, in his letters, did not address foreign policy or political structure. He was focused upon redemption in Christ, growth in Christ, and its impact upon individuals.

In America, let us be thankful that we may participate in the political process, and let us be faithful and wise in doing so, but let us also keep our priorities in perspective. In the Sermon on the Mount, there is the principle, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” If we make spiritual issues the highest of our priorities, we will do better at keeping our lives in balance.
