My wife and I went to a 65th wedding anniversary party for a couple from our church - Lewis and Vivian.

They were 21 and 19 when they were married.

Lewis was in the Navy at the end of WWII and was on a ship off the coast of Okinawa during and after the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, he worked for the Great Northern Railway which after a series of mergers became the BNSF.

He:

  • Is a Christian going back to his youth
  • He served his country in WWII
  • Raised a family in church
  • Had a successful career
  • And as his crowning achievement celebrated 65 years of marriage

He told me that when he was married, his father-in-law told him that he would not amount to anything.

It seems easy to criticize the next generation. Perhaps we should remember that there was a generation who criticized us!
