Obituary for Dr. Arthur B. Walton - Former Professor/Chair department of Bible and Theology at Faith Baptist Bible College

I first met Dr. Walton when he, I, and Dr. Paul Tan received our doctorates from Grace Seminary in May, 1972, and we were good friends since, although our paths did not cross very often. He once spent a few days visiting Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary in the early 1980s. My prayers and concerns are for his family and friends at this time. When friends and relatives die in the Lord, my thoughts always turn to imagining what the Celestial City must be like. I always conclude that it is, and will eternally remain, incomprehensible to a finite mind.

Dr. Arthur B. Walton, 81, husband of Kathy Tuttle Thompson Walton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2013, at his home. He was born on October 12, 1931, in Crawford County, PA, he was the son of the late Don and Ruby Handley Walton.

Dr. Walton was a 1949 graduate of Meadville High School, Meadville, PA and graduated in 1953 from Houghton College in New York. He received his ThM degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, ThD degree from Grace Seminary in Winona Lake, IN, and D. Min. degree from Central Baptist Seminary in Minneapolis, MN. He was Professor/Chair department of Bible and Theology at Faith Baptist Bible College, Ankeny, IA for 45 years. He was author of nine series of Sunday School lessons for Regular Baptist Press.

He was a member of Community Baptist Church, Greer, SC. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Philip, of Hermiston, OR, a son-in-law, Mark Shultz and his wife Mandy, of Bondurant, IA, two step daughters, Sherrie (Mark) Johnson, of Taylors, SC, and Cindy (Steve) Skaggs, of Greenville, SC, his grandchildren, Benjamin, Savannah, and Mikayla Schultz, of Bondurant, IA, Shane Walton of Oregon, Paul (Michelle), Mark (Karen), Christina and Angela Johnson, Matt, Kristie, Jason, and Caleb Skaggs, all of Greenville, Ben (Allison) Skaggs, of Charlotte, two great-grandsons, Liam and Mason Johnson, a brother Jack (Barb) Walton , of Beaufort, NC, and an honorary daughter, Teri Smith.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Wenzel Walton, a daughter, Kelly Walton Schultz, and a brother, Frank Walton.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 1:00 PM at Community Baptist Church, Greer, SC. Burial will follow in Woodlawn cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Church.
