Church members accused of stealing $15K from pastorless church. Treasurer wrote checks without filling out to whom the checks were going

Some years ago Chuck Swindoll observed that the pastor “should have the key to everything inside the church except the safe.” Wise advice that. In the system I work under the pastor has absolutely no involovement with the finances of the church, unless I ask questions at a business meeting. Sadly, this system can be easily abused.

Having served as a Treasurer for three organizations:

1. A state association of churches
   
2. A homeowners’ association AND
   
3. A local church
   This is a major error - never do this!
