The word “Christian” has many meanings. Thus, asking the question, “Were you raised in a Christian home?” can be ambiguous. Does one mean a home that professed evangelical religion? Or does it mean any sort of Christianity?

People change as well. Perhaps you were not raised in a Christian home, but your parents came to the Lord when you were 12? Were you then raised in a Christian home? We cannot cover all the possibilities, so try to choose the answer that fits you best.

The folks who participate in SI tend to be people who are very involved in the Kingdom, so wondering what kinds of background you have.

I was raised with a fairly devout Catholic mother and non-practicing Lutheran father. So I would say I was raised in a home with some sort of Christianity, but not of the evangelical/fundament persuasion. I came to Christ through a friend at 17. So what is your background?

My parents were pretty much first-generation Christians having come from families that sort of believed in God in name-only. They weren’t both saved until I was about 6. They had a lot to learn about what it meant to be Christians, but I definitely benefitted from their raising me in a Christian family, even if it didn’t start from day one.

My parents were Methodists (UMC),but I actually "dragged" my family back to church after about four years of non-attendance after a friend of mine in wrestling asked me why I didn't know the Lord's Prayer. Yes, in public school wrestling practice, we closed with the Lord's Prayer. Thank you, Mr. Lambert, and thank you, Eddie. It took a while to come to Christ, but that got me started.

I was not only raised in a Christian home, but so was my dad, and my Christian heritage goes back generations. My grandfather came to America as a 3 year old. His grandfather and great grandfather were Baptist pastors in Poland.

To my knowledge, I am the first Christian in my entire heritage. I do not know of any of my ancestors in India who was a Christian. I am told that my paternal grandfather was sort of a traveling evangelist and musician in the Jain religion. My parents believed and practiced Jainism all throughout my childhood and early adulthood.

After my salvation as an adult, my mom and a few other family members have been saved.

My dad was a non-practicing Lutheran and my mom (and grandmother who lived with us when I was young) were Catholic, which is how I was brought up. I came to know Christ at age 17 and then saw my mom saved (I even baptized her). What a blessing!
