Is the age of the western missionary "on the field" ending?

By Ed Vasicek on Mon, 09/25/23

Western participation in foreign missions is changing as more and more nationals take the helm, often supervised and supported by western missionaries who do not necessarily remain on the field. With computers and the internet, limited access to certain nations, and missions that help train nationals, we are living in changing times. But will we still see many missionaries from the west on the field, in addition to these new innovations? What is your opinion and/or experience?

Do short term youth mission trips really develop our youth in the long term, as adults?

By Ed Vasicek on Wed, 05/10/17

Short term missions trips make people FEEL like they are making a difference, and they sometimes do for a certain ministry. Many of us would argue that the millions spent would do more good if channeled toward career missionaries who remain on the field to actually develop disciples, but that is a different concern.

Anyone ever hear of "Service of Friendship Mission?"

By Ed Vasicek on Thu, 03/02/17

A woman from our church had some free literature from “Service of Friendship Mission.” The gospel presentation seemed solid, but I went online and the meager website offers no doctrinal statement and does not appear to belong to any mission organization.

They are headquartered in Switzerland. Although the gospel presentation is solid, I am suspicious of any church or organization that doesn’t offer a doctrinal statement.

Missionary Housing in Iowa?

By jlmcpeters on Thu, 01/23/14
Does anybody know of a church with a prophet’s chamber or guest house in Iowa? My family and I are missionaries with Biblical Ministries Worldwide, and we need a place to stay between Sundays in March for about two weeks. If you’d like to know more about our ministry, please visit whywales.org. If you’d rather send info by e-mail, you may send it to me at: [email protected].

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Laptops for Missionaries

By Jay on Sat, 09/28/13

Hi all-

A Missionary that I know of is planning to leave for his work in October, and he’s asked me to look into some laptops for him. If you are a missionary or do a lot of overseas travel, what features would (did) you look for and use in your laptop? I’m most comfortable with Lenovos, but any suggestions are welcome. I’d like to have a rough idea within a week or two of this post.
