My church was decorated for Christmas this past week and I took a specific look just so I could start this thread. What Christmas decorations are in place at your church?

We have three 5 foot artificial trees decorated in various parts of the common areas and evergreen garlands wrapped around some of the columns. Our auditorium is a flat gymnasium-sized, rectangular room with a raised platform in the middle of one of the long walls. The front corners of the platform normally have some large potted plants near them. Now, each corner has 6 2-foot tall artificial trees on white blankets with cottony stuff around them to look like snow. There is one 8-foot decorated tree in the far left corner of the auditorium. That’s about it for our decorations.

We have stuff on the railings and hanging here and there. We also do a candle light each week in December. Personally I could do without it but it’s not a hill to die on for me.

In our commons we have four decorated artificial trees (I’m estimating heights): one 18’, one 12’, and two 8’. They look nice. There’s also a 6’ wreath hanging on a wall.

I forgot to mention wreaths. We have 2-foot wreaths hanging on each of the four doors leading into the auditorium. Larry, do you have no Christmas decorations in the auditorium itself?

None in any of our three auditoriums (1,146 seats & 532 seats at site #1, where we multi-venue; and 495 seats at site #2).

I know a pastor who, while he was a youth pastor, worked at a church where they didn’t celebrate Christmas because it was “a pagan holiday,” and as a condition of employment the youth pastor was forbidden from having Christmas decorations inside his own home …

Well, now you have me wondering - Did he willing comply or did he have decorations anyway or did he leave that position?

He complied outwardly, but kept a secret Christmas tree in his home and forbade his family from telling anyone at church. Such is the coercive power of the hard-right of Baptist fundamentalism …
