the articles are written from a Northern Baptist\CBA\FBF POV. But, they do give a good idea of how one segment of IFBdom got to where it is.

These articles’ story arc ends in the late 70s/early 80s, when fundamentalism was still fairly unified and a somewhat significant player in American religious culture. I wonder if Mr. Sproul could use his historical insight to see how the Jones’ and Rice’s reaction to Graham (not saying their disagreement wasn’t legitimate) led them (especially Rice) to embrace radicals leaving the SBC in the 60s and 70s, whose radicalism led to the splintering of fundamentalism into the mess it is today?

The only mention of any material after 1980 is a diss of the GARBC for allowing compromise first in the area of music, which led to compromise across the board. Oh, and somebody in the FBF accused John MacArthur of being the most dangerous man in America. It’s a good thing I didn’t have anything in my mouth when I read that or it would have been all over the monitor.

From its inception in the late 1940’s, one of the significant marks of NE was the willingness to co-operate with theological liberals and apostates in religious endeavor. Ashbrook seemed to redefine NE by labeling it “Neutralism”, permitting Fundamentalists to hang the NE label on anyone who wasn’t a militant fundamentalist.

I too found the pronouncement of labeling of John MacArthur interesting, considering the historic use of the term. But having been in a ministry that labeled everyone from BJU to Rick Warren as NEs, I’d heard it before. JM “dangerous? There are a few guys in the FBFI that scare me more.
