Writing as a homeschooler, it strikes me that failing to discern between high passing and low passing grades—A vs. D—would leave a mark as parents try to work with the strengths and weaknesses of their child, and will end up leaving kids unable to deal with their late high school and college courses—when their failure to learn arithmetic and phonics will really, really catch up with them.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
