High Time for an Honest Conversation about THC

“THC is now available in a variety of ‘dosed’ allotments and consumables…. while staying overnight at a hotel, I reached into the mini-fridge to grab a late-night drink. I thought I had grabbed sparkling water, but my eyes caught the THC lettering on the can right before I popped the top.” - CToday

NewPerhaps a mistake on his part

I am under the impression that a lot of the possible therapeutic effects of marijuana do not result from THC, but rather from another chemical (cannabinodol?) that is not intoxicating. We'll see where the research goes.

And to me, that's the key issue. For a long time, there has not been good quality, statistically sound research going on in the area, which means that most of what you hear is someone observing a small sample and trying to make extrapolations. Personally, I wonder if we'll find both that (a) marijuana, possibily including both THC and cannabinodol, has medical benefits and (b) as you might expect, you will also find medical risks, especially in mental health.

Regarding the latter, since THC is a hallucinogen, it seems reasonable to me to wonder whether it could be linked to mental illness like psychosis and schizophrenia. But that said, Deming's Law holds; "In God we Trust; all others must provide data.". Hopefully good data will provide good guidance for regulations.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
