Regardless of how many factors one attempts to account for, any and all research is very limited in its veracity and usage. We can gain some insights, but I find it difficult to draw substantial conclusions. I think maybe Americans are a bit too enamored of studies and statistics. We want EVERYTHING to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, and that’s just not possible.

Unfortunately, it seems that in some sociological circles, the ferocity with which one holds a viewpoint is indirectly proportional to the amount of substantiated evidence for said viewpoint. And that appears to be true on both sides of this issue.

The story of what Regenerus has been going through is indicative of problems with the peer review system. It can become the ‘groupthink system’ and a whole lot of hostility ensue when you even question the dominant orthodoxy.
Regenerus isn’t even conservative, but he has been curious enough to want to investigate some dogmas. I hope he’s able to do more work on this in the future.
