NewIt's prudent to provisionally trust people

Thu, 03/21/13

It’s prudent to provisionally trust people:

  • Jesus did the same: “Jesus did not commit (πιστεύω) Himself to them, because He knew all men” (John 4:24). Greek word is interesting because it is commonly translated “believe” (as in John 3:16)
  • When Jesus sent out the twelve He instructed them: “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves”

Experience tells us that there are predators: Some examples from my own life:

  • A man tried to roll me in downtown Denver. I walk with crutches. He came up to me and kept bumping me to see if he could tip me over. It was just a matter of time! A good Samaritan came to my rescue and scared the guy off.
  • A sexual deviant approached my teenaged daughter in a park near our home.
  • Someone (just this past month) stole my identity and opened up credit in my name and address to ship goods he purchased to an address that is not mine. This is clever and insidious and not easy to spot or stop. I detail this on my blog here and here.
  • While this was some time ago (nearly 30 years) … someone stole a brand new bike out of my garage

In the IT world (my world), one finds:

  • Malware
  • Phishing
  • Viruses and bots
  • One’s PC is constantly under attack. A new, unprotected computer installed on the internet will be generally be compromised within seven minutes.

There are:

  • Hucksters
  • Liars and
  • False teachers

I have 2 companies who call me regularly (it’s always during the day so I only interact with them when I have a week off and am around the house). One is a company who goes by the name “Credit card services” … the other “Global IT Support”.

Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.
