Have they renovated the food in recent years? I visited BJU once on a college visit in 1993 and the meals there were among the worst food I have ever eaten in my life.

Yes I hear the food is a lot better and will be better still after the rennovation. I actually worked all summer on the last major rennovation of the service line: breaking up concrete, pouring it, building walls. It was lot of fun, but it’s weird to see all that work being undone or redone.

I think my stomach needs $6 million in renovations after several years of eating ground beef bake and spicy tuna boats :)

Starting this past school year food services at BJU have been run by Aramark. So yes, there’s been a definite improvement in quality.

And I’m sure that newer, larger facility brings efficiencies

You guys had it easy. You should have eaten there ‘80-‘82, long before the salad bars and individual serving stations — the days of Welsh Rabbit, chipped beef, “congealed salad” (which, to my great surprise, turned out to be Jello), and you had the choice of, at most, 2 entrees or you went without. Between the subsequent cafeteria changes and rule changes (dating, ties, etc.), the place got positively cushy.

Some of the food served at the dining common is now cooked at Furman (relatively ritzy school), and it’s the same food. So yes it’s better, but they have to have taste testers make sure it’s not poisoned ;-)

Easy jokes about the food aside, was the renovation needed? From what I understand, some long-time faculty and staff are being cut, programs are being eliminated - but - the building/renovating goes on.

If BJU is so flush with cash, why can’t they spread it around to those who directly touch lives?

I cherish (and use) what I learned from my BJU instructors, but the food - what it was and where I ate it was of little or no importance.
