An Ohio man charged with burning down a church in northwest Wisconsin on Halloween told police he has ‘personal problems’ with the church and the people who run it, and that his father, a former pastor there, was driven out of the church, according to a criminal complaint.

NewHard to know...

We don’t really know what happened in the past. We haven’t heard from the arsonist’s father or the church staff. I believe I read elsewhere that the church was considering building a new facility as well. It may end up being providential for them.

NewMental problems

Note the third to last paragraph seems to indicate that the perpetrator was known to church members, who knew that he had some issues. I’m guessing some kind of mental illness.

I don’t think it lets the church off the hook totally—the “right boot of fellowship” can be devastating, and it ought to be investigated whether it was used there and for what reasons—but there’s a story there that will likely have a major place in the perpetrator’s trial.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
