Trump’s ‘Greatest Contribution to Christianity’: Pastors Preaching Politics

There is actually no ban on “preaching politics” now. There is a ban on endorsing candidates. Removing that ban would be a very bad idea. Trump (and his talk radio dupes) has already proved adept at using the gullibility of evangelicals. Lifting the endorsement ban would just turn many churches into arms of political parties/campaign organizations.

(If there was a ever a time when evangelicalism needed more faithful preaching on political principles, I don’t know when that would be… except maybe 10 years ago. It’s a bit too late now it seems.)

….it’s long been evident that the ban really only applies to pastors endorsing conservative candidates, as there’s a strong of examples of churches pretty much endorsing Democrats and not getting any visit from the FEC or IRS.

But that said, in our era of Gospel-free churches, the last thing we need is another distraction from what the pastor needs to be doing.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
