Interview: Williams and Jongkind on the Tyndale House Greek New Testament (THGNT)

We have sought to design the whole edition in a way accountable to the earliest witness at each point. Thus readers can know that the text at any point in the edition is based on multiple witnesses and, outside of Revelation, at least two witnesses from the fifth century or earlier.

NewWhy?

I’m still not sure why this edition is necessary, or why it is worth so much time and attention from the editors. I cannot get over the idea that this is an academic vanity project for specialists. I see no real value to “working people” in ministry (i.e. pastors and seminary grads). The interviewer asked the editors why a reader should reach for their product instead of the UBS-5 or NA28, and they couldn’t give a credible answer.

Tyler is a pastor in Olympia, WA and works in State government.
