Because when a 2 year old says what he is, we take that at face value. Therefore, I am the father of two princesses, a collie, a duck, a tank, and a dinosaur. (the young man in question decided he was a girl at age two in the same way other little boys play at being dinosaurs and tanks)
On a side note, if we wonder why our country has such difficulty dealing with child abuse, we might consider that Netflix has an audience for a show which is arguably child abuse.
