Do Flags Belong in Churches? Pastors Around the World Weigh In.

Interesting to see how pastors from around the world feel about their countries, and our, flag. I must confess I was a bit surprised. It’s not a comprehensive survey, to be sure, but I’d have expected a lot more “why bother” from foreign pastors.

That noted, my main opposition to the flag in our church is that we also “fly the Christian flag”, and protocol dictates that the U.S. flag always be flown highest. Hence I’ve viewed it—along with patriotic services—as somewhat idolatrous in effect.

Of course, if we simply let the “cross” be our symbol, that problem is solved, isn’t it? And we’ve saved a few bucks to boot.
