59% of American Christians Say They’re Persecuted, May Not Understand Real Persecution

“…conservative Christian groups have a lot to celebrate. The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and delivered a big win to Christians who want to pray in public schools. These are big, historic decisions and they don’t square with a narrative of diminishing religious liberty for Christians.” - Relevant

Merriam-Webster defines persecute as:

to harass or punish in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict

specifically : to cause to suffer because of belief

Now, I think most American Christians are capable of distinguishing between what is generally happening here and “Christians in places like Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia [who] can be imprisoned, tortured and even killed for their faith.” That said, imprisonment, torture, and death are not the only forms of persecution. And it does not further the conversation when harassment “designed to injure, grieve, or afflict” is dismissed as not real persecution.

But then, I guess, the authors of articles like the OP would not be able to sanctimoniously lecture Americans who express concerns over current societal trends and dismiss them as overwrought and Chicken-Little-ish.
