I didn’t count, but many if not most of the people on the list had been prosecuted. While SBC Executive Committee should have been upfront that they had such a list, seems to me any church could have discovered this info about a person if they had done a criminal background check.

Exactly Jonathan, this is just the “safe to publish” list. They publish this because these are all convicted or in the process. What takes real guts is their “other” list of people who have been accused but not tried or convicted. The guys who were just moved to another church.

Plus, this is simply the EC’s list. What about the local churches who know their pastor or leader was charged with something, but they just moved him out… no report made.

In a quick scan, I recognized several names on this abusers list from previous newspaper articles. This “secret” list is not near as sinister as some have implied. It is mainly just a collection of newspaper articles about Baptist abusers, collected the last 15 years or so. So, they have already been exposed and, in a number of cases, prosecuted.

I would encourage anyone who has been abused, to report it and prosecute the abuser in a court of law. A law court can usually do a much better job than we can; they have many more resources.
