If one ignores the historical inaccuracies and the blasphemy …

Another controversial element in the film is the use of Israeli tanks and planes in a surrealistic scene following Judas’s betrayal of Jesus. The military equipment was provided by the Israeli Defense Ministry, although the Israeli markings were painted over. In the opinion of the film’s critics, this sequence establishes a link in the film between modern‐day Israel and the Jews of Jesus’s time.
