It reminds me of a proverb that a professor taught me way back:

Vater werden ist nicht schwer.

Vater sein, sehr.

Translated; it’s not difficult to become a father, but very difficult to be one. And with reference to this column, it strikes me that a lot of men have discovered that it’s a lot easier to look like a man (put on the flannel shirt and logging boots, grow a beard) than it is to be one (get and hold down gainful employment, marry the woman you love and serve her per Ephesians 5, etc..).

And that’s a shame…..

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
