The New Gulags

Carl Trueman: I want to teach my students to think. Others only want to teach their students to think like themselves. That contrast in educational philosophies could make the difference between a free society and one dominated by gulags, whether of the Siberian or university variety.

In other places I visit, the neo-Stalinists are out in force. It is amazing, to put it mildly, how many people have failed to read a word of Solzhenitsyn, and therefore are woefully unprepared to discuss things such as the natural course of socialism. Many even ignore the basics of modern news, not cluing into what is going on in Venzeuela.

I wish Trueman well. His task, even at a famously conservative school such as Grove City, is not going to be easy.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
