It’s good to know the distinctives of a generation (understanding that every individual is unique, and we’re talking about overall averages).

But there are always the features that never really change …

But they aren’t inaccessible. They clearly see the brokenness of the world. They’re not afraid of hard questions about the meaning of life or the pursuit of justice. They’re looking for community. And all of those things are found in the gospel.

get the feeling that the reason every Gen Z article mentions how much emphasis they put on integrity and character implies the previous generations have none in their opinion?

It never occurred to me to take it that way.

With the generational stuff the idea is almost always to highlight things that are more strongly emphasized by one generation then another. One thing or another will pop in the research, showing that it was on their minds a bit more at that point in time… but sometimes the margins are pretty small.

I don’t think my suggestion is that far out in left field. Pretty much every Gen Z article posted here at SI says something like there is friction between Gen Z and the Boomers (Gen X hardly ever gets mentioned, that’s me and likely you) and “one cause” of that friction is that Gen Z cares about personal consistency in actions vs. beliefs. That implies to me the Gen Z writers at least think Boomers “as a class” lack integrity with their actions and convictions.
