Why Pastors Should Use a Different Greek Text

Mark Ward: “Pastors need to know something about textual criticism. But pastors are not generally called to dig deeply into the topic; it’s information overload. This is why I personally use the SBLGNT. …. a special critical edition whose apparatus carefully boils down all the complicated textual evidence to a simple, useful summary.”

NewSBLGNT

If you have Logos, you have the SBLGNT. If you read and use Greek, you should use the SBLGNT. It’s a helpful summary of the relevant textual evidence. It’s also free. Use it. :)

Tyler is a pastor in Olympia, WA and works in State government.

NewIt is good

I also use the SBLGNT for any work from the Greek. It is generally very good, and I don’t remember ever running into major discrepancies between that and the UBS text I had in undergrad.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

NewTextual Analysis

When I teach/preach from a NT passage, I usually open a textual comparison module in Logos with NA28, Robinson-Pierpoint, and the TR. In addition, I use the NA28 critical apparatus so that I can chart the dates and geographic distribution of the variants.

I’m apparently not the target audience for the SBLGNT.
