The Methodist commentator omits from his response that he believes (or at least his denomination insists) that at some point, a genuine Christian’s failure to pursue holiness sufficiently results in the loss of salvation. Seems to me that necessarily makes his take on the holiness/grace discussion less appropriate as a counterpoint; he’s not necessarily comparing apples to apples.
The salvation-bringing grace of God teaches us what we must “deny” and what sort of life we ought to strive to live.

I think Anne head hit the nail on the head. Grace and holiness go together. Scripturally speaking, we can never truly have one without the other.
