….and it’s good advice. There has been a job or two where I should have walked out sooner, and a part of why I didn’t was that I didn’t always have a “get lost” fund ready. (another point for dealing with bad management, really)

[Bert Perry] and a part of why I didn’t was that I didn’t always have a “get lost” fund ready.

I’ve never heard the “get lost” term used. Perhaps, that’s the Christianized version of the term I did hear used for this type of fund. Basically, have enough money saved up to quit your job on the spot and find something else to do. We’re talking about having either 6-12 months of savings or a source of regular passive income that you can live on.

Decided to spare Aaron/moderators the effort of removing the term I’d originally learned, yes. Well stated.

Brings to mind The Caine Mutiny, which I recently listened to as an audiobook. In some situations, you can’t leave (in this case, the Navy). One needs to tread very carefully, especially in trying to solve such situations. You can end up as the victim, with the idiot still in charge and holding all the cards.
